My contribution may change the world
Modernizing agriculture and establishing new ways of thinking - this is the mission that Wafa Yahyaoui, our Fullstack Engineer, signed up for with conviction. When she applied to us out of sheer curiosity, she was immediately drawn to Agrando's energy and vision: Now she wants to push an entire industry with her programming skills. In her Agrando Story, our self-appointed "CodeChica" reveals what caught her by surprise in her first days and where her favorite place in Munich is.
Hi Wafa! Please, describe yourself in three sentences.
I am from Tunisia, studied and lived in different cities there. I grew a passion for computer sciences from an early age, and I was determined to have software engineering as studies and pursue it professionally. Munich is my new home town, moved here for my first job after graduation.
Tell us how you came to Agrando.
When I have seen the job advertisement from Agrando, I applied out of curiosity: we usually think about the agricultural field as an old school and a left behind sector. It was really interesting to come across a digital company working in such a field. Afterwards, when I had my first talk with Sebastian and Chris I was really fascinated by how devoted and passionate they are about what they are doing at Agrando and the goal they want to fulfill: ensure a digital future for the agritrade business. The spirit and energy they conveyed during our talk made me decide that I really want to be a part of this mission.
What did you do before Agrando? Were there any milestones that you are particularly proud of and can contribute to Agrando?
Before Agrando, In my previous job and last internships, I worked in different software engineering areas: data engineering, frontend development and mainly focussed on backend. I worked within different teams which allowed me to extend my technical background thanks to mutual experience exchange and as well to strengthen my working together spirit.
Tell us, what do you actually do here all day long?
At Agrando, I am a fullstack engineer. I work in both backend and frontend. While I am still new in the engineering department, the collaborative and helpful spirit that we have in the team is making it easier for me to get comfortable with our code base and contribute to different tasks in our project.
Where do we find you when you're not working?
Definitely in Olympia park ! It’s my favourite spot in Munich, I spend most of my free time there, laying down reading a nice book and enjoying nature or sometimes running.
Why "CodeChica"? (Your funny name)
Software engineering, coding in particular, is not just a job for me, but also a hobby. I enjoy working on side projects and solving algorithmic problems when I have time. Coding has become a crucial part of my everyday life even outside work. Hence, the name.
Have you already experienced a special "Agrando Moment" that has stuck with you in a special way?
Before joining Agrando, I was a bit uncomfortable with the thought of joining a new team remotely. I was not really sure how it would be not to meet my teammates in the first weeks at the company. However, the first days washed all my worries away when I found out how smooth the integration went, everyone was super welcoming and nice. Since the first day, everyone was reaching out for a virtual coffee/lunch break to get to know each other better. I would say that this was a really nice surprise that marked my first days at Agrando :-) .
What makes Agrando so special to you?
I strongly believe that the benefit of technology should apply to all. Especially in the areas that have always been looked at as left behind and old school. I have found it really exciting how Agrando is changing and promoting the way of thinking about agritrade business which makes me really enjoy the fact that my work is making an effective impact and making a critical change to the world.
Thank you very much, Wafa. We are happy to have you with us!
